PGHD Trust Canvas

The PGHD Trust Canvas is a tool designed to help clinicians evaluate the trustworthiness of Patient-Generated Health Data (PGHD) for use in clinical decision-making. Drawing inspiration from established models like the Business Model Canvas, the Ethics Canvas, and the Trust Canvas, this tool offers a structured approach for clinicians to assess PGHD systematically. It incorporates various factors such as data quality, provenance, and associated risks, allowing clinicians to reflect coherently and systematically on the reliability of PGHD. The ultimate goal is to facilitate the appropriate integration of PGHD into healthcare practices, enhancing personalized patient care. Use cases identified through in-depth interviews highlight its utility as an explicit and retrievable record of clinical judgment on PGHD trustworthiness. Additionally, the PGHD Trust Canvas shows potential in clinical education by capturing clinicians’ thought processes methodically. Developed as part of the author’s PhD research since 2021, the PGHD Trust Canvas is intended for clinicians who use, refuse, or need to consider using PGHD in their decision-making. It helps clinicians reflect thoroughly and methodically on factors affecting their trust in PGHD. The tool does not provide a binary decision but a framework for evaluating various factors influencing trust in PGHD. The PGHD Trust Canvas is free for anyone to use.
